Private Yoga Therapy

“My therapeutic yoga services offer my clients an accessible, individualised and collaborative modality that assists them to address specific health concerns and goals. Clients gain practical health and well-being tools leaving them feeling empowered.”

What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is a completely individualised approach to practising yoga. It’s the therapeutic use of yoga that combines all the tools of yoga such as movement, breathwork and meditation to explore specific health concerns and optimise wellness.

The yogic model of health is unique because it addresses every aspect of life, viewing all the systems of the body and mind as one, rather than separately. And that’s just how I work with clients in my private yoga therapy sessions. I look at your specific physical, mental or emotional challenges, your goals and potential limitations, and then design a personalised yoga program to help you improve your overall wellbeing.

These may include the following:

Who can benefit from yoga therapy?

Absolutely anyone, even if you have no prior experience of yoga. If the idea of attending a group class has held you back from trying yoga, or you’ve attended a class but found the class setting wasn’t quite right, then private yoga therapy might be for you. If you’re already working with other healthcare practitioners, yoga therapy will be a wonderful modality to support you at any stage of your healing journey.

Wherever you find yourself mentally and physically, yoga therapy can help you with many aspects of health and wellbeing, including:

What does a private, yoga therapy session look like?

My yoga therapy sessions are held in the safe and comfortable environment of my own home. Ideally clients attend a small number of appointments, with the goal to transition to a community class or continue to practise on their own at home.

Initial Assessment
Your first session is 90 minutes, during which we talk about your individual needs and goals, and any health limitations. We then do a simple yoga practice in which we explore your range of movement and go through how you can get the most out of each posture and practise it safely. I then design a tailored yoga plan based on our first consultation.

Follow-up Consultations
Each subsequent yoga therapy session is 60 minutes. We continue to refine your practice, finding out what really works for you and what doesn’t.The goal of these sessions is to empower you to be able to continue your own yoga practice at home or to feel comfortable enough to join a community yoga class.

What to bring
Wear comfortable clothes, and if you have a favourite yoga mat, bring it along. I will provide all other accessories if required, including additional yoga mats, cushions and bolsters.

What my clients are saying...

"I highly recommend Heather as a Yoga Teacher and Therapist. She is friendly, warm and nurturing, which immediately puts you at ease, and she genuinely cares. Heather empowers you with evidence-based practices that help you to live your best life."
"Doing yoga therapy with Heather one-on-one is a deeply nourishing and personal experience. In our private sessions we’re able to really hone in on any concerns that I had with my body on a particular day and in general. I gained a much greater understanding of my breathing patterns and learned some specific practices for bringing my breath back into balance when I need to."
"Thanks again for your lovely guidance and feedback. I have learnt a lot and really enjoyed my sessions with you."

A little more about me...

I have practiced yoga for almost 22 years and have trained in all aspects of yoga teaching & yoga therapy for the last 10 years.

Bowel Disease Sufferer
I too have suffered illness and disease diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2015 and since then I have used both western medical interventions alongside therapeutic yoga to assist the management of my symptoms. I have since regained confidence & strength and in 2020 I started to teach myself how to run. Since then I have entered my first triathlon and other trail running events. My motivation is not to be fast but keep my body/mind strong & well.

Offering yoga to those in need.
I am also passionate about offering subsidised/free yoga to those in need. I am the official yoga teacher at Fiona Stanley Hospital,  offering weekly, subsidised classes to the health care workers. I also offer a Scholarship Pass to attend a specialised course for FREE. This course is “Therapeutic Yoga for those Affected by Cancer” It offers anyone, + carers, to attend an ONLINE weekly class that caters for specific limitations. This is all thanks to the donation of local Real-estate Agent & Yogi – Kim Liew.
